tips for getting along with your neighbors
- Meet your neighbors. Introduce yourself and exchange phone numbers. Encourage them to call you if there is a problem.
- Say hello when you see them.
- Bake your favorite dessert and bring it to your neighbor.
- Do things together. Include all neighbors in community activities (block parties, clean ups, yard sales, etc).
- Out late at night? Don’t shout into your cell phone, talk loudly to your friends, and slam your door shut when you get home. Some of your neighbors may have to get up early for work.
- Having a party? Let your neighbors know in advance and give them your phone number so if there is a problem they can call you first. Keep your guests inside, keep the windows closed, end at a reasonable time and pick up after your guests.
- Keep it clean. Pick up litter (even if you didn’t place it there).
- Be courteous. Don’t park on sidewalks or block driveways. Keep your dog on a leash and clean up after it.
- If there’s a problem, try and fix it informally with a friendly phone call or a note.
- If you’re a good neighbor, they will probably be good neighbors.
