43% of UC Davis students reported not drinking in the past 30 days (2009 National College Health Assessment). There are many activities at UC Davis and in the local community for students that do not involve alcohol. One of the strongest predictors of student success is involvement and feeling connected to the campus and community. Below are some ideas on how to get involved:
Student internships, jobs or volunteer opportunities
- There are a number of volunteer opportunities on our campus. This will help you structure free time and also provide you with the opportunity to develop new skills, not to mention creating a greater connection with the campus and Davis communities.
- Get a student job. Check out the Student Employment website for openings.
Things to do
- Check out the campus newspaper and campus calendar for event listings.
- Visit the East Quad Farmers Market, Davis Farmers Market or see a movie in downtown Davis.
- Take a stroll at the Arboretum.
- Go for a swim at the Recreation Pool.
- Check out the Experimental College for a full listing of courses on cooking, dancing, heart & spirit, holistic health, language, martial arts, music, yoga & movement.
- Take advantage of the 400 acres of parks and greenbelts in the Davis community by planning a picnic, going on a jog or flying a kite.
- Experience a one of a kind visit to old town Sacramento.
- Plan a day trip to San Francisco, just 75 miles away.
